The Startup Coffs Coast Pitch Competition is designed to inspire budding entrepreneurs and innovators to pitch their innovative business solution and provide them with the prize money and support they need to make it happen. 6 Degrees Coworking Hub has created Startup Coffs Coast which includes a Pitch Competition (the Pitch Competition) that is designed to inspire budding entrepreneurs and innovators to pitch their innovative business solution and provide them with the prize money and support they need to make it happen.

A selection of the best entries will take the stage on 28 August 2019 to pitch their innovative business idea to a panel of business experts and an audience of other entrepreneurs, small business owners, potential investors, students, and business and community leaders.

Each finalist will have 5 minutes to pitch their idea followed by 3 minutes of Q&A with a panel of expert judges. Your pitch must include a product or process innovation. It is open to any type of business solution or market need. For example, it can be a business 2 business solution, consumer application, or a social enterprise.


The Pitch Competition is being run by the Coffs Harbour City Council (the Promoter), 2 Castle Street, Coffs Harbour NSW 2450.

  • Entry is open to any individual or team entrant with the condition that at least one member of the team must reside in either the Coffs Harbour, Woolgoolga, Nambucca, Kempsey, and Grafton Local Government areas.
  • Employees and immediate family members of the Promoter and our Sponsors are ineligible to enter the Pitch Competition.
  • Entry into the Pitch Competition will be deemed as acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  • An entry will only be eligible for the Pitch Competition where it complies with these terms and conditions in every respect (Eligible Entry).
  • To enter, Eligible Entrants must within the Entry Period complete an entry form.
  • Where the Eligible Entrant is a team, then all team members must enter on the one entry form.
  • Where the Eligible Entry is a team, the person nominated as the first entrant on the entry form will be awarded the prizes on behalf of the team.
  • All entrants under the age of 18 years of age agree that they have sought and gained their parent or guardian’s consent to enter the Pitch Competition on these terms and conditions.
  • Incomprehensible, illegible or incomplete entries will be deemed invalid.
  • No responsibility is accepted by the Promoter for late, lost, incomplete, illegible or misdirected entries.
  • The entrant/s represents and warrants that the work is the entrant/s sole original work.
  • The entrant/s warrants and agrees not to submit in the Competition any photo, image or any other materials which constitutes a breach of a third party’s privacy or infringement of a third party’s intellectual property rights including copyright or trademark.
  • The entrant/s warrants that the Promoter’s use of the entrant’s entry, including photos, images, biographical and any other materials submitted by the entrant, will not be in breach of any third party intellectual property rights including copyright or trademark.
  • The entrant/s indemnifies the Promoter against any loss resulting from breach of these warranties.
  • Selected finalists must be available to participate in the Pitch on 28 August 2019.
  • Where any event, outside the control of the Promoter prevents or significantly hinders the Promoter’s ability to proceed with the Competition on the dates or in the manner described in these terms and conditions, the Promoter in its absolute discretion may cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition. Any changes to the Pitch Competition will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the Promoter.
  • There is no entry fee to enter the Pitch Competition.
  • There is no limit to the number of entries that can be submitted by an individual or team.

  • The entry format is limited to either a video pitch of two minutes or two A4 pages in PDF format.
  • All entries submitted by email are limited to a size of 10Mb.
  • Please ensure your application does not go over the size limit or we will not receive your application. Your application and supplementary material may not be broken up over multiple emails.
  • Entries should clearly state the name, address, email and contact phone number of the applicant/s.


  • Register for our email newsletter to ensure you are on our who’s who list of Coffs Coast entrepreneurs and get all the latest updates, special invitations and hot tips on the Pitch Competition and 6 Degrees events.
  • Attend workshops hosted by Six Degrees, access support material online, work out of six degrees, find a mentor and apply the learning to your pitch.
  • Entries for the Pitch Competition open on 4 July 2019 at 12 pm and close on 16 August at 5 pm (Entry Period).
  • All times are Australian Eastern Standard times.
  • The Promoter is not responsible for any late, lost or incorrectly addressed entries.
 Demonstrating the problem and market need
  • Is there a real and well-defined customer pain point/ need or business problem being solved?
  • Who is going to use it / buy it? How will reach them?
  • How is it different to current solutions?
Giving a compelling explanation of the innovative solution
  • What is the product or process innovation?
  • How have you market tested it so far?
  • How well is it communicated?
 Pitching your business model
  • Can the need be translated into revenue?
  • How big is the potential market? Is it scalable?
  • How will the product or service generate revenue?
  • Is the path to revenue and growth feasible?
  • What is the stage of Development? (idea / prototype ready/ revenue raising / expansion)
  • Is it backed-up by a passionate person/team?
  • What is the economic development impact on Coffs Coast?
  • All Eligible Entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges appointed by the Promoter.
  • All Eligible Entries will be judged in accordance with the judging criteria.
  • Finalists will be announced on Tuesday 20 August 2019 and it is a condition of entry they be available for the Pitch Competition on Wednesday 28 August 2019.
  • Finalists will be notified via the contact details provided on their registration form.
  • The winners will be decided on Wednesday 28 August 2019.
  • The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The finalists and prize winners agree to grant the Promoter, at no cost to the Promoter, a three year, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to use their name, biographical details, image and Pitch Competition submission for promotional purposes relating to the Pitch Competition including promotional purposes relating to any future Pitch Competition.
  • Ownership, moral rights and copyright remains at all times with the entrant/s.
  • In relation to your own intellectual property rights, or intellectual property rights of others that you use with consent in relation to the Pitch Competition, you acknowledge that by disclosing information in the Pitch Competition you waive any right of confidence in relation to that information and expressly authorise us, our employees and agents, the judges, and other persons involved with the Pitch Competition to disclose the information in any way whatsoever and to use the information in any way for the purposes of or related to the Pitch Competition.
  • We recommend that you do not disclose information in relation to the Pitch Competition that would or might affect your capacity to protect and/or exploit intellectual property rights in the future by registration of rights or any other way.
  • We recommend that you seek legal advice in relation to intellectual property. You acknowledge that you have had the opportunity to do so.
  • You expressly authorise us to use the information you provide including your name for the purpose of the Pitch Competition including promoting the Pitch Competition and related activities conducted after the conclusion of the Competition.
  • We may require that you provide us with photographs or video, or allow us to photograph or video you (the Media Materials), free of charge, in order to prepare promotional or other material for the purpose of or related to the Pitch Competition. You agree that copyright in the Media Materials is ours.
  • Personal information submitted by an entrant will be used for the purpose of administering the Pitch Competition and for any other purposes referred to in these terms and conditions.

All Finalists

All finalists will receive a prize package including:

  • StartCon Startup Package includes presence on StartCon Booth, 2 x All-Access Passes to the 2-day Event, and Entry into the StartCon Pitch Competition.
  • All Prizes cannot be exchanged or redeemed for cash or credit.
  • The conduct of the Pitch Competition and these terms and conditions are governed by the laws of New South Wales. By registering and submitting an entry in the Pitch Competition, the entrant/s submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.
